Pillar 06 · The tools that do the work
The tools that actually do the work. Systematic comparative reviews — we test 4–6 products in a category, then publish the methodology, results, and the Winner / Best Buy / Also Recommended hierarchy. Working calculators and decision aids land alongside as the pillar matures. New entries biweekly on Wednesdays.
What it is
Each Tool Test compares 4–6 products in a category over 4–8 weeks of real use. Methodology stated. Criteria explained. Winner named. Failure modes per loser specified.
Who it's for
For people tired of "5 best pruners" listicles without methodology. The Guild tells you what we tested, how, and which one earned the Winner. Buy once, with reasoning that holds up.
How it's written
Every Tool Test runs in Christopher's real growing space — 4–8 weeks of actual use across pruning, propagation, IPM, substrate work. Anti-recommendations get the same editorial weight as winners: when a category fails (moisture meters, for instance), the methodology shows why.
In production
The first Tool Tests ship over the coming weeks. The pillar opens with five comparative reviews — hand lenses, bypass pruners, pump sprayers, moisture meters (an honest takedown), and pH meters.
In productionComing soon
ATK-style comparative reviews, biweekly Wednesdays. The hand-lens test is in production now — a $100 inventory budget, four magnifications, real pest-diagnosis tasks.
In the queue
The first five Tool Tests in the editorial calendar. Categories locked, the founder's bench is the testing ground.
